Housing advocates may feel tongue-tied when questions arise about deceased people and people living in the country illegally receiving federal housing assistance. Those working outside of Section 8 compliance may not know that behind the scenes there are multiple, long-standing safeguards designed to verify eligibility, prevent improper payments, and identify discrepancies.

This webinar provides a clear, non-technical overview of how these systems work and how housing providers apply them in practice. The goal is to explain the built-in controls that support program integrity and to highlight the day-to-day work that keeps them functioning.

This webinar is designed for anyone, even those with no housing or compliance background. In plain language, we will review the key verification and monitoring tools that help ensure assistance is provided only to eligible households, including:

  • citizenship and eligible non-citizen verification requirements;
  • use of the SAVE (Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements) system;
  • identity and Social Security validation processes;
  • ongoing data matching and monitoring;
  • the purpose and use of the EIV Deceased Tenants Report;
  • routine compliance reviews and oversight; and
  • procedures when discrepancies are identified.

Participants will leave with a clear understanding of the layered systems that support accuracy and accountability.

This class will be recorded and available to registered participants in the Attendee Hub (https://cvent.me/2m5gnr) until April 30, 2026.

This session is presented at no cost to participants.
