Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a collaborative, client-centered approach used frequently in professions that support clients to make positive behavioral changes.
This in-person workshop will provide the foundations of MI including the “MI Spirit,” core processes, and micro-skills used to build rapport, explore ambivalence, and encourage change.
Learners will be provided with opportunities to apply approaches to themselves and others, as well as to plan the use of the MI approaches in their roles.
After completing this workshop, participants will be able to:
- describe Motivational Interviewing and its components;
- recognize the power of engagement and demonstrated understanding;
- observe and practice fundamental skills such as listening, open-ended questions, affirmations, reflective listening, and summarization;
- define and recognize change talk, sustain talk, and discordance; and
- plan how to use MI in their work.
Lunch will be provided for this daylong, in-person training.
Cost: $140 chfareach member; $165 nonmember
